Prazosin
Primer
Prazosin is an alpha-1 blocker primarily used in the treatment of hypertension, benign prostate hypertrophy, and posttraumatic stress disorder.
Dosing
- Initial: 1 mg PO qHS
- Maintenance: 1 mg PO qHS initially; may increase dose to 2 mg qHS; adjust dose based on response and tolerability in 1-2 mg increments q7days; not to exceed 15 mg/day
Side Effects
- Headache, sedation/somnolence, dizziness, lightheadedness, weakness/asthenia, nausea, orthostatic hypotension, palpitations, and syncopal episodes (in ~1% at doses >2mg)
Adverse Events
- Priapism due to alpha-1 antagonism
