Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
Primer
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a new non-traditional psychotherapy that involves the use of a patient's own rhythmic, rapid eye movements.
Method
During EMDR, the patient attends to emotionally disturbing material in brief sequential doses (which varies with individual patients) while simultaneously focusing on an external stimulus, typically therapist-directed lateral eye movements.
