Trauma and Stressor Disorders

Trauma is any event where an individual: (1) directly experiences, witnesses (in person), (2) learns about a trauma that occurred to a close family member or close friend (with the actual or threatened death being either violent or accidental), or (3) experiences, first-hand, repeated, or extreme exposure to aversive (unpleasant) details of the traumatic event (and does not learn about it through media, pictures, television, or movies, except for work-related events).

Stress is the body's response to a real or perceived threat.
